Our Construction Support Technician Apprenticeship will equip you with skills and qualifications needed for a long and exciting career in our Technical or Commercial Departments. You could even progress to Director level.

Starting each September, the programme combines on and off-the-job training. You’ll learn the technical elements of the role alongside industry-leading study. A Construction Support Technician Apprenticeship is the foundation for a rewarding career at Barratt, working within one of Britain’s most exciting industries.

You can specialise in any of the following: quantity surveying, engineering, buying, or design. Whichever you choose, you’ll be an important part of Barratt’s future. A dedicated coach will guide you through day-to-day challenges, providing you with the technical knowledge you need to succeed. Regular reviews with your manager will ensure that you reach your potential. And there will be opportunities to make a real difference on real projects every day.

To join this programme, you’ll need to be:

  • 16+, with 5 GCSEs (grade C or above or grade 4-9), including Maths and English
  • Able to deal equally effectively with numbers and a wide range of people 
  • Commercially astute

Which specialism is right for you?

Technical team – Engineering & Design

In this team, you’ll train as an Engineer or Architectural Assistant and get involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation. We have a huge variety of developments across the UK: all of them with unique problems to solve. You’ll use your technical skills to help prepare the design programme, respond to site queries and ensure that drawings align with the approved planning scheme.

Commercial team – Quantity Surveying & Buying

Our Commercial team of Estimators, Quantity Surveyors and Material Buyers have one objective: deliver the best quality homes, at the best possible cost. Their work is fundamental to our business. As part of the team, you’ll use your creativity and commercial flair to the full.

The role requires solid organisational skills as you undertake accurate viability and feasibility studies to help us choose which sites to buy and develop on. You’ll help manage the supply of materials and labour for sites, prepare tenders and reporting, and assist the Surveyors with their day-to-day duties.
